What’s Changed Over The Last 2,170 Days

October 26, 2012

A lot can change in this world over any given length of time. Particularly over very longggggggg periods of time.

To prove the point, using the completely arbitrary timeframe of 2,170 days, here are just a few ways in which our world has dramatically changed since 11/18/2006:

  • The earth, as a vessel, has since traveled 3.468 billion miles through space.
  • George W. Bush was then president. Now-president Barack Obama was a fresh-faced US senator (yet to play a single game of pickup basketball with UNC's men's basketball team under the watchful eye of Roy Williams).
  • Roy Williams had only one NCAA title to his credit.
  • Sidney Lowe had not yet coached his first game as State's men's basketball coach.
  • MySpace was still cool. Facebook was just beginning its spread into non-.edu households.
  • The iPhone did not exist. Not the iPhone 5, mind you–any given generation. Nor did any variety of the iPad–original, new, or mini.
  • The average cost of a gallon of gas increased from $2.23 to its current price level.
  • LeBron James was still a Cleveland Cavalier.
  • Cam Newton was backing up Tim Tebow at Florida.
  • Windows Vista had not yet been released to rave reviews.
  • These people were still respected: Jerry Sandusky, Joe Paterno, Marion Jones, Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, Anthony Weiner, Michael Vick.
  • Greece still had a functioning economy. So did the United States of America.
  • Google Maps had no Street View functionality.
  • Philip Rivers was midway through his first season as a starting quarterback. LaDainian Tomlinson was the NFL's top running back.
  • "Sulley" Sullenberger was just a guy. Scotty McCreery was just a kid.
  • The creators of YouTube were newly-minted multi, multi-millionaires.
  • The Carolina Way was still a thing.
  • State won a football game against Carolina. And then did it four more times.

Got another example of how the world has changed over this completely arbitrary, random timeframe? Leave it in the comments and I'll add it to the list.
