Non Sports Stuff: Poet Laureate W.S. Merwin At State On Monday the 17th

October 14, 2011

I know most of y'all glaze over, like I do, when you see the words "poetry." The only poetry you've ever written starts off with "there once was a man from Nantucket…" and the one time you actually put a good, solid effort into writing a poem, you wrote it on a folded piece of notebook paper and concluded it with three checkboxes: Yes, No, Maybe.

Well this guy, W.S. Merwin, is pretty good at it. Like, multiple-Pulitzer Prize-winning, the-official-poet-of-the-United States good at it, and he's coming to State's campus this Monday.

If you're a fan words arranged in an evoking-type fashion, or perhaps you have a lady friend you'd like to try and convince you're not just a drunken slob who watches football and basketball all the time, then swinging by Stewart Theatre Monday at 7:30 would be a good idea.

Edited to add: It's FREE, and open to the public. So you've got no good excuse not to go. Well…one. Those who choose to swing by Amedeo's that night to see us record our first episode of the podcast with Chucky Brown and Chris Corchiani are exempt from attending this event. Because, you know, our podcast is more culturally enlightening than poetry.*
