The Pack faced another sub-200 RPI opponent tonight and once again struggled to gain traction at the start. This time it was against the Phoenix of Elon (they'll always be The Fighting Christians to me) and the Pack actually trailed at halftime.

But like they have in all the games against low-level competition prior to tonight, they found their stride in the second half and saved themselves the embarrassment of a bad loss before conference play starts.

The effective field goal number is impressive at nearly 66%. Elon hung in the game, however, with a nearly perfect 23 of 24 from the free throw line. (Edit: Nine threes certainly didn't hurt, either.)

Tracy Smith netted 15 points in his second tuneup while CJ Leslie led all scorers with 19 points. Richard Howell snagged eight rebounds to go along with 10 points in 18 minutes, but was a woeful 2-of-7 from the free throw line. A big man that can't hit free throws will be a hinderance in a close game against better competition, so here's hoping Richard gets that tightened up.
