Quick Thoughts On Syracuse
December 3, 2010
- Per usual, Steven does his excellent pre-game breakdown on The Orange(men), including the holy-crap-that’s-awesome-if-you’re-like-me-and-love-anagrams revelation that the letters of Scoop Jardine’s name can be rearranged to form the words “Jade Scorpion.” #mindblown
- We’ve gone from playing probably two of the toughest teams to defend in Georgetown and Wisconsin to facing one of the most difficult teams to score against. Jim Boeheim has essentially built his “brand” on his version of the 2-3 zone that makes it darn near impossible to score against on the interior. The pessimist in me sees the potential for another disastrous outing; the optimist thinks these are the types of teams we need to face in order to get better as a squad and facing them now—versus in-conference or in (hopefully) the NCAA tournament—will lead to greater success down the road. Thirty-three years of being a State fan hasn’t killed off the optimist in me yet; no sense letting the Wisconsin game do the same, I guess.
- Jim Young of ACCSports.com said it best on the radio this week: After the game against Wisconsin, EVERY single sign points to disaster and NO ONE expects State to win…which may be the very thing this team needs to loosen up and play the game they’ll need to play to do just that. Will it happen? I’d say there’s less than a 20% chance of it. Could it? Absolutely. There’s still enough talent here to do the job IF they get their act together.
- Speaking of radio, if you’re up at 9:00 and by a computer, pull up the online stream of The Score 1260 AM (www.thescore1260.com). They are a sports talk station in Syracuse and asked me to come on and talk State hoops. Don’t ask me how they came to me…I assume that means every other blogger and news media member here in Raleigh turned them down first. Nevertheless, I should be on sometime around the top of the 9:00 hour, about 9:10ish. Tune in and mock me mercilessly. I promise, I’ll try to make all of us State fans look knowledgeable (or at least not semi-mentally-handicapped).
