ACC Women’s Soccer Preview From

August 18, 2010

They predict growth from the lady Pack, but have State finishing 9th in the standings.

Second year boss Steve Springthorpe had NC State fans dreaming of a red revolution when the Wolfpack stunned Virginia in the first weekend of ACC action, but a regression to the mean followed shortly after.  A departure from double digit losses may not exactly quench the desire of Wolfpack fans, but progress in the ACC can often be glacial.  The return of scoring duo Paige Dugal and Kara Blosser should help speed the process up though.
Dugal doubled her goal haul from 2008, finishing last season with eight goals and adding three assists in the process.  Dugal also showed a flair for the dramatic, notching the goal that downed Virginia.  Blosser was a revelation as a freshman, leading the Wolfpack in scoring with nine goals.  The Wolfpack suffer heavy losses in defense, with Jordan Edwards the only defender with serious starting minutes coming back.  Goalkeeper Kim Kern also returns, although she was mediocre statistically in 2009.  Dugal and Blosser could fire NC State to a few upsets, but an unsettled defense probably means it’ll be another year before the Wolfpack can make significant strides up the ACC pecking order.
I can’t argue with that…primarily because I know nothing about soccer.
