Neat Post Over At Bleacher Report: Top 50 Football Posters

July 28, 2010

Hat tip to the folks over at Pack Insider for finding this. Someone over at Bleacher Report (which I typically loathe, by the way…any idiot with a keyboard can write for them, which is a poor business model IMO) requested electronic copies of the football schedule posters for as many FBS college football teams as they could and ranked them.

State’s poster came in 27th out of 50, which seems fair.

I personally like the cleaner look of State’s poster versus some of the busier designs from other schools, but his top 5 is pretty tough to argue with. I really like Georgia Tech’s a lot, and Vanderbilt knocked it out of the park with their four-poster design.

My one gripe about State’s poster this year, though: As the University of Nevada continues to make more of a name for themselves nationally in football and basketball, I think we need to ensure all of our marketing materials say “Wolfpack.” This design–with the “Wolf” and the “Pack” separated–opens the door for folks to confuse it with Nevada’s “Wolf Pack.”

I realize the design aspect of it, how breaking the word into two pieces allows for the central placement of the wolf, but as we find more and more instances of the media referring to us as the “Wolf Pack” starting to crop up, I think we would do well to insist on keeping the word together at all times.

(By the way, that “Wolf Pack’s” poster finished 6th.)

I know. “Jesus wept” is what made it into the final version of the Bible, but editors removed the “when he logged onto Bleacher Report” from the initial drafts, not knowing at the time what the terms “Bleacher Report” or “logged onto” meant.

You’ve got a serious Paul Johnson man crush going on, my friend. 😉

It’s hard to hate on a guy that wins an ACC title in his second season in the league running an offense everyone said wouldn’t work.

Oh, and I didn’t even notice the “Wolf” and “Pack” on the State poster.

We should be thankful, I suppose, that Wolf and Pack were spelled right.

But wasn’t this the poster that had Cincinnati misspelled? I can’t read it at this size.
