Josh Davis Heading To Tulane

June 8, 2010

Josh Davis decides to head to Tulane.

Josh Davis is trading red for green and Raleigh for New Orleans.

Popular with N.C. State basketball fans because of the energy he displayed in limited playing time, the rising sophomore forward is transferring to Tulane.

Davis, who grew up a Wolfpack fan and starred locally at Athens Drive High, is leaving his favorite team for a chance at more playing time, he said Monday.

“Life changes, and you have to move on,” Davis said.

Davis, a 6-foot-7 wing forward, averaged 2.6 points and 1.7 rebounds in 31 games as a freshman for the Wolfpack.

He averaged 10.2 minutes per game and started two ACC games in February, but his minutes disappeared when the season hit March. Davis did not play in the final five games of the season.

“I just want a better opportunity to play,” Davis said.

I wrote this back when Josh made his announcement at the beginning of last month“I think Sidney knows he’s losing one of those ‘glue guys’ every team needs…the guy that pushes the starters in practice, that picks the others up with their play, however sparse it may be. And in losing a true State ‘fan’–a kid that grew up loving State–from the roster, I think Sidney laments losing someone who shares that pride for the Wolfpack that goes beyond simply wearing the uniform.”

I still feel that way. And I think he’s going to miss Josh during those tough days in practice when folks are dragging and unwilling to go that extra mile. He won’t have Davis there still working and pushing and refusing to let anyone stop working…I don’t know if there’s anyone else on the roster that will fill that role.
